Improved Formation Kinetics of Carbon Dioxide Hydrate in Brine Induced by Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate

Due to high efficiency and low cost, hydrate-based desalination is investigated as a pretreatment method for seawater desalination. To improve the formation rate of hydrates, effect sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) on CO2 hydrate from 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution was measured at 275 K 3 MPa. X-ray diffraction (XRD) cryo-scanning electron microscopy (cryo-SEM) were used measure crystal structure micromorphology formed hydrates. The results showed that induction time reduced 32 2 min when SDS concentration increased 0.01 0.05%, conversion 12.06 23.32%, remaining 3.997 4.515 wt.%. However, surpassed 0.05 wt.%, accompanied by decrease in rate. XRD I hydrate, had no influence structure. cryo-SEM images revealed promoted hydrates increasing specific surface area folds; rods clusters could be found hydrate. Thus, best promoting approximately wt.%; most efficient this concentration.
